Smash Bros Club

Giovanni Alejo-Aguilar | Staffer

In Smash Bros Club, gaming passion ignites a supportive community. From shared enthusiasm to academic growth, it’s more than just a club — it’s a gateway to connection and fulfillment.

Sophomore Giovanny Benitez, a member of the club, echoes the sentiment, expressing how Smash Bros extends beyond mere entertainment for him. According to Benitez, the club is a space where his passion intersects with an eager community.

“We often organize mini-tournaments, have game nights, and even host friendly competitions,” Benitez said. “It’s not just about playing – it’s about building a community.”

Luis Galvan, the club’s leader, helps manage the club along with other members. Through his stewardship, gaming becomes a mode for fostering connections and personal growth.

“It’s more than just managing a club; it’s about fostering a community,” Galvan said. “Seeing members enjoy themselves, build connections, and even improve academically, that’s personally fulfilling.”

Smash Bros club meets every Thursday during lunch in room 103.

Baking Club

Gordon Streber | Staffer

The loud chatter that fills Monica Cong’s classroom every Thursday during lunch, the colorful baked goods, and the friendly atmosphere would make anyone feel at home. In the Baking Club, the members enjoy various baked goods and try out new recipes with each other while socializing.

Lucy Loehr is a senior and passionate about the club. She’s one of the founder’s closest friends,  Mailys Schuppe, but she did not just join for that.

“I like that everyone pitches in to bake,” Loehr said. “The desserts are usually recipes that people make with their families. There’s a lot of cultural dishes and variations on desserts that make each one special.”

Connor Grim is a senior and one of the club’s first members. He bakes to relax and finds comfort in talking to the other members.

“I like the social aspect of it, being able to be around people with a similar interest and talking about it,” Grim said. “Eating the food and whatnot is great, but honestly the social element is my favorite part.”

Producing Club

Bishop Britt | Staffer

Creating beats with friends is what Producing Club is all about. Located in the choir room, the club meets most Mondays and is a get-together for LASA’s aspiring music producers.

Sophomore Gabe Reynolds is passionate about music production and has been a member of the club since September. Reynolds loves the club and has nothing but positive things to say about it.

“Music Producing Club is just really the number one place to foster imagination within the music-making space at LASA,” Reynolds said.

Charles Boyle III, a sophomore member, says that the club has helped him further his journey in the music industry.

“I love making the beats and seeing what everyone else is making and helping them,” Boyle said. “Hip hop, rap, drill, rock, just whatever I feel. I can make my music into a big actual future and career.”

Reynolds encourages students interested in music production to join the Producing Club. According to him, the club motivates its members to keep making music.

“I would recommend this club to anyone at LASA who is looking into getting into producing and wants some help from experienced people,” Reynolds said. “Music Production Club is just really the number one place to foster imagination within the music making space at LASA.”
