About
52 years ago, in September 1973, the Liberator published its first issue. Since then, whether branded the LBJ Liberator or the LASA Liberator, its dedicated staff and editors have been proud to deliver local, national, and LASA-centered news. Although the Liberator is a student-run newspaper for the Liberal Arts and Science Academy, it has gained national recognition and won numerous awards. Some of these include the Peacemaker (the Pulitzer Prize of high school journalism), the Gold Crown Press Association, and 2005 First Place Best in Show given by the National Scholastic Press Association.
Through LASA’s journalism class and newspaper club, the LASA Liberator crew works to publish a full issue each quarter. We also publish 2 mini-issues every year (one during the summer, and one for April fools), with all six issues being fully written and edited by students in accordance with our editorial policy.
