El propósito de cualquier periodico escolar es servir y honrar al colegio como un fuente de noticias además de orgullo para que todo el cuerpo estudiantil lo lea. En el caso de The Liberator, según la página AISD de LASA, el alumnado que sirve es únicamente diverso, debido a que más que un quinto de los estudiantes de LASA son hispanos y casi cuatro por ciento del alumnado son Estudiantes del Inglés como Segundo Idioma (ELL por sus siglas en inglés). Todo esto quiere decir que, lamentablemente, hay una proporción bastante grande, así como los padres de estudiantes hispanos y los miembros hispanohablantes de nuestra comunidad de LASA, que tal vez ni pueden leer el periódico dedicado a su servicio.

Así que para garantizar y promover más participación con el periodico y un mejor servicio para la comunidad de LASA, hemos tomado la decisión de hacer que The Liberator sea más accesible para los estudiantes y padres hispanohablantes y latinos de LASA por medio de la creación del Libertador. Esperamos no solo atraer a nuevos grupos diversos de lectores y, tal vez, a nuevos miembros de nuestra redacción, sino crear una comunidad de LASA más abierta a diferentes culturas, intelectualmente curiosa y unida a pesar de nuestras diferencias lingüísticas y culturales.

The purpose of any school newspaper is to serve and honor the school as a source of news and pride for the entire student body to read. In the case of The Liberator, according to LASA’s AISD page, the student body it serves is notably diverse, as more than a fifth of LASA students are Hispanic and nearly four percent of the students are English Language Learners (ELL). This means that, unfortunately, there is a significant portion of Hispanic students, their parents, and Spanish-speaking members of our LASA community who may not be able to read the newspaper dedicated to their service.
Therefore, to ensure and promote greater participation with the newspaper and better serve the LASA community, we have decided to make The Liberator more accessible to Spanish-speaking and Latino students and parents at LASA by creating El Libertador. We hope not only to attract new, diverse groups of readers and potentially new members for our editorial team but also to foster a LASA community that is more open to different cultures, intellectually curious, and united despite our cultural and language differences.
